About Language Change (from Emel and Gulseren) # 3

Interaction with the outside world affects our speech; a lack of it affects our speech too. Can you think of any examples that show how lack of interaction causes changes in people’s speech in Turkey?

  1. Because of my parents' jobs, I have lived in different regions and cities in Turkey during my life. I had different friends speaking differently. I had to adapt to the environment and the language again and again. This interaction affected the quality of my communication. Now, I can speak to most Turkish people in their own dialects, which makes the conversation more sincere. However, I observe that some people around me who are introvert and have little interaction with people around for years have serious problems with expressing themselves. The more they avoid interaction, the more they block themselves linguistically. They use their words to few people and can't even construct sophisticated forms. As they live simple, their language gets simpler.
